Difficult or stubborn interior design clients?

Last year I decided to follow the Dutch version of the '4D Signature Strategy' training at Institute of Interior Impact. Listening from the couch with a notepad on my lap.

I haven't really expected the notepad soon turned out to be too small. I kept on writing because everything Marc said was exactly as my design vision is.

′′Beautiful is not good enough" I believe was one of the quotes that passed by. Smart housing solutions designed specifically for the residents. Making the home as practical as possible, that's where I start.

No matter how I could impart that essence to my clients, I found it difficult from the very first meeting. And with that, projects were not always smooth.

So my question for help was actually subconsciously "how do I ensure that clients start the project from my vision and thus better understand all subsequent steps for the best result?"

After many notes, I actively started to rewrite my intake form, web texts, introductory brochure and other expressions. Goal 1 a correct story in which the client will increasingly say, 'this makes sense'!

Since last year I apply my new detailed vision and the projects run much more smoothly. The extensive intake I now have sometimes surprises new clients, but from there it works perfectly for both parties. No difficult persuasive conversations, no clients who keep coming up with new wishes or realizations that deviate from the design.

This 'Design Principles' training has been an eye-opener for me on the one hand and a memory refresher on the other.

After my training as an interior designer, I first sat down on the other side of the (design) table to gain experience and after a few years I started designing full-time again and started my own design agency.

To continue to develop myself and my company, I did this 'Design Principles' training.

This made my design principles clear again.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I 'knew' my own principles and I used them automatically, but I couldn't really name them.

But now I can. Also I can now better acquire clients that really fit my company after the training.

Apart from the fact that I loved the '4D Signature Strategy' and that I would advise it, I also think it's a great recurring element that Marc or Sven calls me once in a while to see how I'm doing. Even being able to get a number of assignments through these 2 gentlemen. Then the training is earned back in no time! So it's definitely worth it!
